Western Pencil Drawing
"Played Out"

In this charcoal and pencil drawing, I wanted to evoke the image of a sleeping child, snuggled up next to Dad, while rendering only their boots.  After arranging these cowboy boots for nearly a week, I came up with several observations.  The big cowboy boots pointing outward give a feeling of strength and stability.  The smaller boots leaning and pointing inward suggest innocence and vulnerability.  Assigning human characteristics to inanimate objects, simply based on their placement, is hard for me to explain.  If it feels right, I go with it.
