Written and illustrated by J. D Hillberry, published and distributed world-wide by North Light books, this technique book has sold over 50,000 copies to date. The English version is found in over 480 public and university libraries around the world including libraries in South Africa, United Kingdom, New Zealand, Thailand, Hong Kong and Taiwan. It was also recently translated into Chinese. A recent Google search for “Drawing Realistic Textures in Pencil” lists over 800 sites that are either reviews or links to retail outlets carrying the book.

The only way to receive a personally signed copy is to order it from this site or one of my art shows.  This 128-page book contains 150 color illustrations that demonstrate my techniques for creating realistic drawings.  The step-by-step lessons show how to render the look of metal, wood, fur, hair, leather and many other realistic textures.  It is geared to artists who have some basic drawing skills that want to take their drawings to a higher level of realism, but even beginners will find it helpful.

Recently, I collaborated with General's Pencil Company to produced a special drawing kit that contains many of the pencils I use and recommend. This drawing kit features a mini sample of one of my charcoal and pencil drawings entitled "A String of Memories" along with a guide that explains the pencils and blending materials used to create the drawing. I also have available 3 more pencils that are not included in the kit but I feel are an essential part of my drawing materials.
